On August 23rd, Kasuga City held the 15th English Speech Contest for the first time since Covid-19 Pandemic. This time round, the speech contest focus on only free speech section. Yuka Nagata of the 1st grade came in the 3rd place with her speech, "My dream is to be a teacher". She gave an outstanding performance with good fluency and gestures. 

In the 2nd grade, Yua Nagayasu's "Basketball, here I come!" speech was interesting and heartfelt. She did her best to express her will power to continue to work hard in her basketball club.

In the 3rd grade, Harumi Tanamachi's "Should we implement online lesson from now on" touches on the topic of the good and bad of having online lessons. He was able show us both sides of the story with his clear and strong presentation. 

You are all a winner! You did your best, and you improved so much. Let's use your English skills in your future challenges. 

Grade 2 Problems at the Hotel

ALT Chloe spoke to students about her experience traveling in New Zealand, and the trouble she had in the youth hostel. Students were given pictures of different kind of troubles they can have at hotels/youth hostel when they travel abroad. They discussed the problems and learnt how to

communicate to the front desk to ask for help. The lesson had many different situations which helps students to prepare themselves for overseas travel.

Special Needs Class English Lesson in Kasuga J.H.S.

The class started off with phonics rap, students chant and point at Aa~Zz words. We focused on short vowel sound aeiou today. Students enjoyed word making challenges with letter cards. The second half of the lesson focused on getting students to share the things they like and introduce their favorite food, music, artist etc. to the rest of the class. Good job everyone! 

Grade 1 students had lessons with ALT Chloe, Ms Kashima and Ms Sakaguchi. Ms Chloe introduced Singapore to the students followed by a Singapore quiz. The students enjoyed conversational lesson with listening, writing and speaking activities. They had fun asking each other questions to find out who their friends were pretending to be, as the main activity. 

Grade 1 students discussed ways of traveling to places near their home and to places in Japan and also overseas. The objective of the lesson was to bring in the general knowledge students had on the methods of transportation and to build up their curiosity to travel and to learn new things.

Grade 2 students had a lesson to discuss about their holiday plans. They learnt verbs and activities they can do, made their plans and had a discussion using Wh-questions. Many students shared their ideas on how to spend a fun and relaxing holiday.

Grade 3 students learnt to debate about whether living in the city or country is better. In order to facilitate the discussion, students learnt to form ideas on the good points and bad points of each place. Next, they had to put their ideas into sentences to either support or disagree. Last of all, they had pair debates to express their thoughts to their partners.
